The government has established a Working Group on Patriotic Education to comprehensively devise strategies for promoting patriotic education.
At the Legislative Council's Panel on Constitutional Affairs, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang stated that the task force suggests focusing short-term efforts on the grand promotion of this year's National Day activities, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The aim is to foster a strong sense of patriotism in society and the community through National Day activities incorporating patriotic education. Various policy bureaus and departments actively prepare for related events, with details to be announced in due course.
Business sector Legislative Council member Erik Yim expressed concerns about whether the authorities would consider enacting a local Patriotic Education Law. Tsang responded that there are currently no plans for such legislation.
He emphasized that the government has established regulations for related activities and actively encourages civil organizations to hold patriotic education events.
Tsang worried that excessive regulations might not achieve the desired effect but assured that the government will closely monitor the situation and provide necessary guidance for organizing activities.
