In a recent interview, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung expressed his hope that Cathay Pacific could expedite the restoration of its operational capacity. He urged the airline to set a target date for achieving complete capacity restoration.
Lam emphasized that Hong Kong is eager to enhance its status as an international aviation hub and believes that relying solely on Cathay Pacific is insufficient.
The Airport Authority Hong Kong aims to fully restore Hong Kong's aviation capacity to pre-pandemic levels by the end of this year.
To achieve this, authorities seek to increase flights to Hong Kong from domestic and international airlines. Notably, EgyptAir will resume its route between Hong Kong and Cairo.
Additionally, the government will study the licensing and regulation of ride-hailing platforms later this year.
Lam stated that future ride-hailing platforms must meet the standards set by the authorities; otherwise, they will be required to exit the market.
