According to a report by CCTV News, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link officially opened on June 30 at 3:00 pm this year. An analysis of the traffic data from the first week after its opening shows that the corridor has effectively alleviated the traffic pressure on other cross-river routes, such as the Humen Bridge.
Regarding daily travel trends, July 1 saw the highest travel volume, followed by July 7, a Sunday. Analyzing the hourly trends, the peak travel time from east to west, i.e., from Shenzhen to Zhongshan, occurs in the morning. Conversely, the peak travel time from west to east, i.e., from Zhongshan to Shenzhen, is in the afternoon and evening.
The opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has significantly reduced the traffic on the Humen Bridge. The traffic volume from east to west on the Humen Bridge decreased by 45.3%, while the west-to-east direction saw a decrease of 42.9%.
Hourly data from July 1 to July 5 show the most significant effect. Comparing the average traffic volume on the Humen Bridge between June 25 to 29 and July 1 to 5, the traffic volume from east to west decreased by 45.3%. However, in the following days, the traffic volume on the Humen Bridge increased slightly, with a decrease of only 13.1%.
Additionally, it was observed that nighttime traffic heading towards Zhongshan via the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is relatively concentrated, with a small peak around 9:00 pm. The main starting points are Bao'an District and Nanshan District, while the main destinations are Zhongshan city center, Ma'an Island, and Zhuhai. In the west-to-east direction, the traffic mainly originates from Zhongshan, with Bao'an and Nanshan Districts being the primary destinations.
