A Hong Kong man lost his life while climbing Japan's Mount Fuji.
According to Japanese media, the 58-year-old man was found unconscious while climbing the mountain from Yamanashi prefecture on Monday.
He was pronounced dead later.
The Immigration Department said it'd received a request for assistance. It has initiated follow-up actions through the commissioner's office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong and the Chinese embassy in Japan.
The department added it has provided appropriate advice and assistance to the victim's family members.
According to local police, who were cited by Japanese media, this was the first death since hikers were allowed to ascend the 3,776-meter mountain this summer.
