Henry's Take EP8 | Selection and training of Chinese cadres: Governance experience comes first
Welcome to Henry's Take! Henry's Take will take you to the world of Western media and rebut some misunderstandings, biases, or false accusations.
There are differences between the United States and China in the selection of officials. In the US, a businessman like Donald Trump, who does not have a lot of experience in governance, can be the president. But in China, this is not possible.
China attaches great importance to creating a pool of high-caliber cadres. Young cadres are required to enrich their experience in governance before taking up key positions.
They often need to gain practical experience in solving livelihood problems through service at the grassroots level, and are promoted only if they perform well.
What's more, cadres need to assume temporary postings to acquire diverse working experience. And outstanding cadres working in State-owned enterprises with professional knowledge and expertise may also be transferred to the Central Government.
