Over 64,000 HK vehicles travel under northbound travel program
Since the implementation of the "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles" (the Scheme) in July 2023, there are over 64,000 HK single-plate private cars with valid permits traveling northward under the Scheme, according to Liu Chun-san, the Acting Secretary for Transport and Logistics.
Liu noted that the usage rate of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) has recorded new highs, among which vehicles under the Scheme account for about 40%.
According to the HZMB Authority, relevant authorities are optimizing the facilities and arrangements at the Zhuhai Port, including increasing the clearance lanes for private cars and enhancing the facility clearance efficiency to address the issue of severe traffic congestion, Liu said.
He also added that the SAR government will continue to maintain close communication with relevant Mainland authorities to study various enhancement measures and implement feasible solutions as soon as possible.
