The airport's new intelligent security screening system began its phased rollout yesterday (July 2).
The Transport and Logistics Bureau announced that departing passengers no longer need to remove liquids and electronic devices from their carry-on luggage during security checks, increasing overall throughput by 20%.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung tested the new system yesterday, praising the smart security channel for being "easy and fast."
According to a post on the Transport and Logistics Bureau's social media, Hong Kong International Airport services continue to improve, with even simplified carry-on luggage inspections.
Departing passengers can complete security checks effortlessly without repeatedly taking items out for inspection. The trays used for luggage are automatically recycled, saving manpower and enhancing the passenger experience.
