On July 1, the Central Government decided to gift Hong Kong a pair of giant pandas. In this regard, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung said on a social media platform that he would like to express his sincere gratitude to the Central Government for once again gifting a pair of giant pandas to the HKSAR, which fully demonstrates the Central Government's love and care for the city.

"At present, the government is pressing ahead with the relevant preparatory work."

Yeung mentioned that yesterday, he and the Commissioner for Tourism, Ms. Vivian Sum, paid a special visit to Ying Ying and Le Le, the giant pandas currently residing in Ocean Park, to inspect their living conditions and living environment.

He said he believed that the caring keepers would provide a comfortable living environment for the pair of giant pandas gifted to Hong Kong by the Central Government so that they could live a healthy and happy life in Hong Kong.

"The addition of the new pair of giant pandas will attract a large number of tourists and citizens to Hong Kong, and will give impetus to Hong Kong's tourism industry," he noted.

A number of Legislative Council Members and Hong Kong deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) have expressed the hope that the Central Authorities would give Hong Kong more giant pandas. Hong Kong Deputies to the National People's Congress, Nicholas Chan, said previously that giant pandas would help enhance the patriotic sentiments of the people of Hong Kong. Now, the wish has been fulfilled.
