Health Secretary: Priority care needs to be given to acute patients in A&E Department
Hong Kong's Health Secretary Lo Chung-mau on Saturday (June 29) responded to concerns regarding the Accident and Emergency Department and the ongoing healthcare review, outlining the government's approach.
The Health Secretary emphasized the need to prioritize care for acute and emergency patients in the A&E Department. Efforts will be made to discourage non-urgent cases, which comprise approximately 60% of attendees, from seeking healthcare services unnecessarily.
The government aims to enhance services in public and private clinics, encouraging individuals to manage minor illnesses through these channels or consult family doctors. Additionally, measures are being explored to support patients with major illnesses, including increased subsidies and possible caps on expenses.
The Health Secretary emphasized the importance of a robust healthcare system for acute and major illnesses, ensuring timely and appropriate care.
