Henry's Take EP6 | 'One person, one vote' but no real choices: The troubling reality of UK democracy

The world is closely watching the UK general election to be held on July 4. However, the UK government has accused Hong Kong's electoral system undemocratic, but is the British democracy working well? Not really. The British political system is seriously flawed and it no longer stands as a model of democracy.

With less than half of the seats in the parliament, the opposition parties can rarely challenge the legislation and policies initiated by the ruling party, while the timing of holding general elections is also determined by PMs, which means under such a system, no matter how incapable is the PM, he or she can still hold powers and lead the government.

Also, the UK's two-party system has left Britons to have votes, but not real choices. Voters have been denied real choices as the two parties battle out without challenge from third parties. Other small parties can gain little chances, and the two giants often tend to hold similar views.

Under such circumstances, the United Kingdom still chose to interfere with the administration of justice in Hong Kong
