The new Disney Wish cruise ship will be based in Singapore for 5 years starting in 2025. HK LegCo member Edward Leung Hei hopes the government will actively engage with Disney and other stakeholders to secure the Disney cruise ship as one of its ports of call, believing this would help boost the tourism industry.
Leung said that Japan estimates the Disney cruise ship can bring in several million visitors per year. He said he hoped the Disney cruise ship could also use Hong Kong as an intermediate stop on its route.
Hong Kong currently hosts multiple cruise ships that bring in around 880,000 visitors annually, and Leung believes the Disney brand can attract significant numbers of passengers who can also visit the local theme park.
