Cedric Ho, an épée fencer, took home the gold medal at the Asian Champions in Kuwait on Sunday as he gets ready to compete in his first Olympics in Paris this summer.
In an all-Hong Kong showdown for the gold medal, Ho edged out fellow SAR fencer Ng Ho-tin.
In a final bout that swung one way then the next, Ho came out on top 15-14 to capture his first gold medal at an Asian Championships.
Ng's silver also represented his best-ever result.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Ho earned a hard-fought victory over Kazakhstan's Yerlik Sertay. After falling behind early in the bout, he won four points in a row to build a lead he would not surrender – eventually winning 15-13. Ng, meanwhile, defeated Japan's world number 20 Akira Komata 10-9.
Ho will compete in the next Olympics in Paris on behalf of the SAR.
