2024 Olympic Day promotes Olympism and supports HK athletes to compete in Paris Olympics

The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) today (June 23) organized the "2024 Olympic Day" event at the West Kowloon Cultural District to join the global celebration of International Olympic Day. The event aimed to promote the core values of Olympism and encourage public participation in sports.

With the Paris Olympics set to open next month, members of the public are appealed to cheer Hong Kong athletes on as the city is building up excitement towards the Games. Themed "Run with Hong Kong Athletes" featured a 5-km and 3-km Individual Run, as well as a 2-km Family Fun Run, and received an enthusiastic response with more than 4,000 participants. A number of game booths were also staged for the public to join for free, offering a fun-filled day out for families on Olympic Day.

Mr. Joe WONG, Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Timothy FOK, President of SF&OC, and SF&OC Officers officiated the event ceremony. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. FOK said, "It is great to see everyone fully engaged in the run. From June to August, our member sports associations will continue to organize a series of activities in support of the Olympic Day, including sports demonstrations and experiences, booth games, etc., to encourage members of the public to learn more about various sports. In doing so, we hope members of the public will eventually live a healthy life and enjoy the fun of sport. Meanwhile, we will continue to promote the three core Olympic values, namely 'excellence', 'respect' and 'friendship', in the community."

Paris Olympics will kick off next month. LEE Cheuk Yiu (Badminton) and CHEUNG Sum Yuet Cindy (Swimming), who have already qualified for the Olympics, also attended the ceremony in the uniforms of the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the Paris Olympics. The two first-time Olympians shared how they have been physically and mentally preparing for the competitions. LEE Cheuk Yiu said his dream and goal was to compete in the Olympics, sharing his anticipation to clinch a medal. CHEUNG Sum Yuet Cindy said she would not only enjoy the Olympic ambience, but also strive for commendable results. She also called on the public to support athletes and their teams. Also attending the ceremony were LI Tsz To (Athletics), FONG Shing Yee (Basketball), NG Kiu Chung (Gymnastics) and HO Tsz Lok, Tomato (Squash), who took part earlier in the filming of the promotional video for the event. They shared their sporting experiences and how they enjoyed the fun of sport, enticing the public to develop healthy lifestyle by doing physical exercises.
