Govt plans gradual annual increase of 5-9% in university tuition fees starting next year
The government plans to gradually increase tuition fees for the eight subsidized universities in Hong Kong starting from the 2025/26 academic year, according to sources.
The proposed plan involves annual fee hikes of 5 to 9 percent over three consecutive years beginning next year, with an official announcement expected soon.
Secretary for Education Dr. Choi Yuk-lin recently stated that since the 1996/97 academic year, inflation has risen by approximately 40%, yet local subsidized university tuition fees have remained unchanged.
Choi emphasized that it is time to review and raise tuition fees, though she assured that the increase would not happen immediately.
