The latest QS Best Student Cities ranking, released yesterday by international higher education information provider Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), placed Hong Kong 22nd globally, down one spot from last year, but still ranked 5th in Asia.
The QS Best Student Cities ranking assesses cities based on six indicators: university rankings, student mix, desirability, employer activity, affordability, and student view.
This year's ranking surveyed and evaluated the experiences of over 100,000 students across 150 cities worldwide.
Hong Kong's scores fell in two key indicators: affordability (covering living costs and tuition fees) plummeted 29 places to 102nd, and student satisfaction with their study experience in Hong Kong slipped one place to 36th.
The top three cities in this year's ranking remained unchanged from last year, with London retaining the top spot for the sixth consecutive year, followed by Tokyo and Seoul in second and third places, respectively.
Montreal, Canada, entered the top ten for the first time, rising from 13th to 10th.
QS noted that Asian cities performed well this year, with most climbing in the rankings.
They praised the diverse student populations and the robust historical and cultural foundations of 36 Asian cities, emphasizing the benefits of international education for students and countries alike.
