
The Chief Executive, John Lee, announced today (June 18) that the recipient of the second Chief Executive's Award for Exemplary Performance is the Task Force for Basic Law Article 23 Legislation, comprising members from the Department of Justice, the Security Bureau and the Hong Kong Police Force. The government will make a detailed announcement later.
Lee said that the Task Force organized nearly 30 consultation sessions to explain the bill in detail to people from all walks of life; then, in less than a week, it conducted a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the more than 13,000 submissions received and reported them to the Legislative Council; it finalized the bill and submitted it to the LegCo for scrutiny in a short span of just nine days; it answered more than 1,000 questions during the 25 meetings of the LegCo and proactively took on board the views of LegCo members in proposing 91 amendments; and it also made a number of suggestions to the government in response to the interference of external forces.
Lee described the Task Force as a hero in his heart and a defender of the SAR.
