Heavy rains continue to impact Hong Kong, prompting the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) to issue both a thunderstorm warning and a yellow rainstorm warning signal on June 14.
At 10:00 am, the Observatory escalated the alert to a red rainstorm warning, indicating that widespread areas of Hong Kong have recorded or are expected to receive over 50 millimeters of rain per hour, with the rainfall expected to persist.
The Observatory has warned that the ongoing heavy rains have already caused, or will likely cause, severe flooding and traffic congestion. The heavy rains may also affect school schedules.
Additionally, the Observatory highlighted the risk of flash floods and noted that river channels are already flooding or may soon flood.
Residents are urged to avoid river channels and to stay alert to weather updates. Those living near riverbanks should closely monitor the situation and consider evacuation if their homes are at risk of flooding.
In response to the red rainstorm warning, the Education Bureau has suspended classes of all PM schools this afternoon, while AM and whole-day schools that are in session should continue until the end of school hours.
The Education Bureau stated that evening classes will proceed unless otherwise notified if the Observatory downgrades to a yellow rainstorm warning or cancels all rainstorm warnings by 5:00 PM.
