The Law Society of Hong Kong elected its new leadership today (June 11), with former vice president Roden Tong Man-lung as the new president.

Tong noted that Hong Kong has faced many challenges in recent years, and the Law Society has been drawn into political disputes and turmoil.

"It is essential to safeguard the independence of the Law Society of Hong Kong as a self-regulating body… We must continue to steadfastly maintain political neutrality, uphold the rule of law, and resist any actions that might undermine the integrity and autonomy of the Law Society as a statutory legal professional body," he said.

He also expressed confidence in HK's judicial system, stating that HK is one of the safest cities in the world with an independent judiciary, where judges at all levels adjudicate professionally.
