Chief Executive John Lee stated today (June 11) during a press briefing that Hong Kong has achieved a historic milestone with the selection of a HK payload specialist for China's fourth batch of astronauts.

The China Manned Space Agency announced today that one of the two payload specialists is from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Lee described this news as a source of pride for all HK people, noting that it is the first time a HK candidate has been chosen as a payload specialist for the China Manned Space Program, with the potential to become an astronaut and contribute to the country's space endeavors.

He believes that the selection of the HK payload specialist not only highlights HK's unique position under the "one country, two systems" but also underscores the country's emphasis on HK's technological development and recognizes the strength of its innovation and technology talents.

"Additionally, it also showcases the determination and perseverance of HK youth in realizing their dreams," he added.

The CE expressed gratitude to the central government for providing the opportunity for HK candidates to participate in the selection. He views this as support and encouragement for HK's scientific community and as an opportunity for HK to partake in the national space initiatives.

According to Lee, he and the HK people will fully support and appreciate the contributions made by the specialists in this honorable national mission.
