Liujiang Ancient Town, which is situated in the Meishan City of Hongya County in the Sichuan Province in southwest China, provides a peaceful retreat as well as a chance to immerse oneself in 800 years of Chinese history.
During the Southern Song Dynasty (1127–1279), when a few affluent families ruled, Liujiang was built. Zhang, Zeng, He, and Yang were the four main clans. Zeng's Mansion is the home that has stood the test of time the best.
Apart from its ancient Chinese-style residences, the old town is well-known for its picturesque surroundings. The rushing Huaxi River, the verdant Yuping Mountains, and the streams that wind through the town all combine to create an incredibly beautiful setting. It takes you away from all the chaos surrounding business and industrialization with its honesty and simplicity.
There are lots of beautiful spots where you may relax and enjoy the rustic atmosphere. Options include taking a riverboat ride, meeting locals and guests over a cup of tea at the neighborhood tea shop, or simply taking a leisurely stroll around the historic district's meandering cobblestone streets and learning about its background.
Tourists are always impressed by the enormous statue of the sleeping Guanyin Bodhisattva in Liujiang's old town, as well as by the revered temples and the towering, thousand-year-old trees.
The ancient town transforms into a hopping night market as dusk strikes. It's highly advised to try Bingfen, a clear jello mixture with molasses, ice, and various toppings. The taste is smooth, sweet, and reviving, making it ideal for summer.
