The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kevin Yeung, will depart for Xi'an in Shaanxi Province today (May 21) in the afternoon. He will attend a high-level meeting related to tourism.
Yeung will return to Hong Kong on May 22 (Wednesday) in the evening. During his absence, the Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Raistlin Lau, will be the Acting Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Yeung said today (May 21) that the events in March recorded more than 32,000 attendees, of which about 50% were tourists, reinforcing Hong Kong's position in the global cultural landscape.
Introducing Hong Kong's events for the second half of the year, Yeung said that the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo, which will be held for the first time in October, is expected to have 1,000 participants from outside Hong Kong and 500 local arts-related personnel, with over 30,000 audiences expected to watch the programs.
"The Expo will serve as a brand-new platform to promote cooperation and trade in the performing arts," he noted.
Also, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will organize the first-ever Chinese Cultural Festival from June to September this year to give the public and overseas visitors a taste of Chinese culture.
