Secretary for Transport & Logistics Lam Sai-hung today said if a Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.9 or above is hoisted in the future, a Mass Transit Railway (MTR) train already running on the open section will try to reach its final destination as safely as possible.

Lam made the remarks at a joint press conference this afternoon on the Government's enhanced strategies to cope with extreme weather, which was hosted by Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki and other relevant Principal Officials and Heads of Departments.

The transport chief said the open sections of MTR lines will suspend operation if a No.9 signal or above is hoisted.

If a train already in the open section cannot reach its final destination, it may stop at a major station which may be large or connected to a mall or other commercial areas, so that passengers can have a better place to shelter and depart the area when the weather allows, he added.
