In response to an announcement made by the British police on charging three men for violating the UK National Security Act, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said China is seriously concerned about the arrest and prosecution of involved Chinese nationals and strongly urges the British side to ensure that the legitimate rights and interests of them in the UK are safeguarded.

Wang said that for some time now, the British side has been speculating about the so-called "Chinese espionage case" and "Chinese cyberattacks", a series of accusations that are purely groundless, malicious denigration and unacceptable.

"China firmly opposes such despicable acts of political maneuvering in the name of justice and national security," he added.
