The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Chris Sun, has recently issued an article criticizing the Social Workers Registration Board's (SWRB) actions and decisions for disregarding the overall interests of the community and undermining its professionalism and credibility. Meeting the media today (May 14), Chief Executive John Lee emphasized that the SAR government absolutely supports any measures that need to set things right, and if there are any mistakes or systemic imperfections that need to be rectified, "I think we have the responsibility to fix it".

Lee pointed out that he had confidence in the Labour and Welfare Bureau's (LWB) full understanding and mastery in this area, and believed that LWB would handle the case appropriately.

Sun said yesterday that as the Secretary, he was well aware of the situation of the SWRB and that the concerns he raised were not political, but related to whether the SWRA had deviated from the public power conferred on it by the ordinance, whether it had deviated from the spirit of the ordinance, and whether it had protected the public interest properly.

As to how the government will reorganize the Board, Sun said that the government will announce a concrete proposal as soon as it is available.
