CPC Central Committee Hong Kong & Macao Work Office Director and State Council Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office Director Xia Baolong, together with all leading officials of his office in Beijing, attended the National Security Education Day opening ceremony today (April 14) via video link.
In a keynote speech, Xia said that today's Hong Kong has put an end to the days when national security is under threat and is able to fully implement the principle of "patriots governing Hong Kong", uniting all forces to strive for economic development.
Xia pointed out that to steer Hong Kong from order and prosperity and improve the livelihood of the citizens has become Hong Kong's largest consensus. Xia put forward five imperatives to drive HK to prosperity.
First, HK needs to safeguard the bottom line of national security, so as to protect Hong Kong's high-quality development. Second, to realize governance and prosperity, HK needs to be more resolute in upholding "one country, two systems" and to give full play to its fundamental role in safeguarding Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.
He added that HK needs to consolidate and give full play to Hong Kong's unique status and advantages and better integrate into the overall situation of national development so as to tap more opportunities.
Xia continued that proactive adaptation and innovation under the new situation and new challenges, are also required for HK to realize a new leap forward.
Xia expressed the Central Government's confidence in the Chief Executive and the SAR Government to make high-quality development the top priority.
He emphasized that Hong Kong today is opening its arms to welcome investors and friends from all over the world. With the strong backing of the great Motherland and the hard work of all Hong Kong people, the future of Hong Kong's governance and prosperity is promising, he said.
