
Chief Executive John Lee expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured in the fire at New Lucky House on Jordan Road, Yau Ma Tei today (April 10).
Lee attached great importance to the incident and has instructed the Hospital Authority to spare no effort in treating the injured, and the Hong Kong Police Force, Fire Services Department and other relevant departments to investigate the cause of the fire and the serious injuries and deaths. He has also instructed the Home Affairs Department and the Social Welfare Department to do their job in the aftermath of the fire and to provide all necessary assistance to the families of the deceased and residents affected by the fire.
The Chief Secretary for Administration, Chan Kwok-ki, said today that he was shocked and saddened by the incident.
Chan said District Officers and Care Teams were on the scene to help those in need to rest in shelters.
"In addition, the Hospital Authority (HA) has set up a special counter to deal with the injured in the fire and will continue to provide support to the injured and the families of the deceased," he added.
According to Chan, the police and fire services will conduct an in-depth investigation into the cause of the fire to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy.
