A Hong Kong Airlines flight from Bangkok, which took off at about 2:00 a.m. today (March 31), turned back to the Bangkok airport after a suspected mechanical failure, with no injuries to the more than 200 passengers on board.

According to Hong Kong Airlines, flight HX780, from Bangkok to Hong Kong, found a mechanical failure shortly after this morning's takeoff. It immediately activated safety procedures to turn back, and safely landed at Bangkok Airport, with no one being injured.

The airline said it would do its best to assist the more than 200 affected passengers to return to Hong Kong on the same day's return flights or on flights operated by other airlines.

"Arrangements have been made for waiting passengers to take a rest in hotels, and we thank them for their understanding."
