Watch This | So-called 'Democracy Summit' seems to miss the point entirely
By Chuan Lung
The third "Democracy Summit," spearheaded by the United States, is set to take place in South Korea from the 18th to the 20th of March 2024, drawing skepticism and criticism from analysts. Many see this summit as an attempt by the U.S. to wield "American-style democracy" as a political tool, the underlying motives and essence of which have been detected by the international community.
The U.S. State Department claims that it is passing the baton of leadership for the "Democracy Summit" to South Korea, with Secretary of State Blinken expected to visit during the event, while President Biden will participate via video. Some South Korean media outlets view their country's hosting of the summit as "playing the role of the U.S.'s errand boy," casting doubts on whether it aligns with South Korea's national interests.
