Hong Kong's Legislative Council on Tuesday (March 19) convened a special meeting to resume its second reading of the proposed Safeguarding National Security Ordinance today.

DAB lawmaker Starry Lee said in a speech that national security is important to one country, as that to other countries throughout the century, and there is no exception to Chinese sovereignty.

"In a nutshell, the domestic legislation of the HKSAR of national security law is in the discharge of its own constitutional duty. The drafting of the bill has made reference to the relevant laws of most foreign jurisdictions, with of course, its own unique characteristics."

"I fully and firmly support the HKSAR government to continue to take the final legislative steps to have this national security bill passed, thoroughly and without delay," she said.
