One of the most popular destinations in China, Shanghai is known as an international metropolis. Famous for its high-rise skyscrapers, it astounds many tourists with its modern and contemporary style. Nonetheless, the city has certain areas that are charmingly bucolic and rustic.
One of China's most beautiful leisure villages this year is a village located in Qingpu District, which is in the southwest of the city. Lianhu, which translates to "lake" from "hu" and "lotus" from "lian," encapsulates the lovely fusion of lotus and lake.
Lianhu town, which occupies 4.25 square kilometers, is the only town in Shanghai that is situated inside a park. Growing crops and selling lotus roots used to be the main sources of income for the local villagers, but due to the dire economic situation, many young people left the hamlet to find job in the city, leaving behind primarily elderly villagers.
Things have drastically changed nowadays. After months of work, the community had a makeover with over 400 residences refurbished, 16 new public spaces constructed, and the sewage issue resolved. Following that, the people could fully utilize the abundant resources to cultivate lotus culture and products.
Visits from more people are being drawn to activities like plucking lotus flowers and enjoying the enjoyment of preparing tea from lotus leaves. 200,000 visitors are anticipated in the village this year. Rural regeneration not only increased the village's economy but also attracted a large number of young people back to it.
Zhujiajiao Ancient Town is the most visited tourist attraction in Qingpu District. The next time you're there, you should think about spending a day or two at Qingxi Country Park and Lianhu Village to experience the lotus culture, the lake, and the warm welcome of the locals.
To get there, take subway line No. 17 to Zhujiajiao Station. Then take Qingpu bus No. 28 to Qingxi Country Park. You'll be able to find Lianhu Village inside the park. Admission is free.
