LegCo Member describes special boundary crossing arrangement for festival as good start, reference for future policy making
Legislative Council member Lau Kwok-fan in a radio programme today described the overnight boundary crossing arrangement as a good start, saying that the authorities should collect relevant data and experience for reference in extending the service hours or implementing 24-hour boundary crossing arrangement at the control points in future.
Lau said he saw that the overall operation of the control points was smooth, and many travellers used the Lo Wu Control Point to return to the Mainland after midnight, which was considered more convenient than the previous arrangement. He suggested that extended service could be implemented for major festivals in future, such as Mid-Autumn Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and National Day.
He opined that if the manpower problem can be resolved, 24-hour boundary crossing services can be implemented at Shenzhen Bay, not only at festivals.
