During the period from Chinese New Year's Eve to the fourth day of Chinese New Year (from Feb. 9 to 13), the Shenzhen Bay Port will operate 24 hours a day, for both passengers and vehicles; on Feb. 9 and 11, the operation of the Lo Wu Control Point will be opened two hours longer until 2:00 a.m., and the MTR Corporation Limited will extend its service accordingly, announced the Chief Executive, John Lee, at a press conference held today (Jan. 23).

Lee said that extending the operation of the Lo Wu Control Point can make use of the railroad to carry a large number of passengers departing from the boundary, and can also divert the flow of people who would otherwise take cross-boundary coaches to cross the boundary. A co-ordinating meeting on cross-boundary transportation arrangements for major events will be held today, after which details will be announced to the public, he added.

Lee said the discussion with Shenzhen reached a consensus within a short period and the progress was smooth. He thanked the Guangdong provincial and Shenzhen municipal governments as well as the relevant departments for their strong cooperation. He added that this shows that Hong Kong and Shenzhen are working closely together and share the same goal of valuing the experience and feelings of the public and tourists.
