Connie Talk EP11 | Yazrin Syakhairi: Islamic economics in Malaysia relies on HK, a robust platform, to develop further
To many people, the phrase "Islamic economics" may be a very unfamiliar term. In Hong Kong, however, there are countless Muslims from all over the world who have a stake in it. When they come to this unfamiliar land, will they want something they are familiar with? Will Muslim businessmen who have traveled far and wide find opportunities to do business?
In this latest edition of Connie Talk, we're glad to have with us Mr. Yazrin Syakhairi, the consul under the Trade Section of the Consulate General of Malaysia in Hong Kong (MATRADE), to express his views on the development of the Islamic economy in Hong Kong, cooperation and exchanges between Hong Kong and Malaysia, and other long-term plans.
Speaking of Hong Kong, Mr. Syakhairi said bluntly, "I've been here for slightly less than two years, but it has been a very wonderful journey for me... Hong Kong has been really kind to me, and I can see how the sector has opened up since the pandemic and how, as of the moment." He is more than excited about the development of Hong Kong and hopes to take the opportunity for more extensive cooperation.
However, the experienced Mr. Syakhairi also expressed his caution. He noted that different markets have different characteristics and that one's own characteristics and standards cannot be directly applied to other environments, because there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" rule. Looking ahead, he believes that Islamic finance, such as halal food, should not only benefit Muslims, and that Hong Kong, with its unlimited opportunities, is the best platform to capitalize on this.
What will be the future cooperation between Hong Kong and Malaysia? How will the Islamic economics benefit the community? And what will be the story of China and Malaysia? Watch the video for more information.
