Shenzhen's large-scale chain supermarket, Costco, opened its doors today (Jan. 12) to a frenzy of customers.
On-site reporters witnessed a massive crowd outside the store even before 9 o'clock, with queues extending many layers inside and outside the building. Some customers had started lining up overnight in anticipation of the grand opening.
Spanning over 160,000 square feet, Shenzhen's Costco offers a wide range of products, including electronics, home goods, fresh food, and groceries. Dyson hairdryers, zodiac gold bars, and oversized Disney cartoon character plush toys are the most popular items. To celebrate the opening, Shenzhen's Costco currently offers a limited-time membership discount, reducing the original 299 RMB membership fee by 100 RMB and providing an additional 60 RMB discount for those opting for automatic renewal.
