In a press conference before attending the Executive Council meeting today (Jan. 9), the Chief Executive, John Lee, said that the government will look into how to ensure that hospital A&E departments can serve the most urgent cases.
Under the current scheme, patients are categorized into five types based on urgency, Lee said, adding that resources for emergency services should be utilized for the most urgent patients, and that it is necessary to review how to utilize the services for the people in need and how to prevent abuse, including reducing waiting time and improving service quality.
He pointed out that a review of the relevant situation should be conducted to prevent further abuse of emergency services.
