
MTR Corporation announces that its associate, Beijing MTR Corporation Limited (Beijing MTR), opened the remaining section of Beijing Metro Line 16 (Line 16) and the Phase II Northern Section of Beijing Metro Line 17 (Line 17) for passenger service on December 30, 2023. This milestone signifies the full-line opening of the north-south Line 16, a backbone of Beijing's metro network, and further enhances the coverage and connectivity of Beijing MTR's network, providing Beijing citizens with a more convenient and low-carbon travel experience.
The two-station remaining section of Line 16 connects to the first three phases, with another new station – Suzhou Jie Station - on the Middle Section of Line 16 also opening on the same day, extending the total length of this north-south backbone line to 48.9 kilometers.
Line 16 serves commuters in key development areas of both northern and southern Beijing, facilitating the integrated urban development within the city. The 24.9-kilometer 10-station Phase II Northern Section of Line 17 enhances the metro network in northern Beijing. It connects the Beijing Future Science and Technology City with several large residential areas and commercial districts, offering residents more travel options and making commuting and daily life more convenient and efficient.

Through collaborations with our partners and stakeholders, we have established good examples of cooperation in the public transport sector. With the commencement of service of new sections on Line 16 and Line 17, the total operational length of Beijing MTR's network now exceeds 190 kilometers, accounting for approximately 23% of the overall operational length of Beijing's metro network.
