BRI & HK | Dunhuang obsession: Thousand-year-old tales retold by HK conservation team
More than 3,500 kilometers away from Hong Kong, Dunhuang is a place surrounded by deserts, and a place with a landscape very different from that of Hong Kong. Civilizations from all over the world met and mingled here, making Dunhuang a jewel on the ancient Silk Road. The murals, sculptures and scrolls in the caves in Mogao record the prosperity of the ancient Silk Road and carry the excellent traditional Chinese culture and art.
However, with the passage of time, sandstorms and human damage, the murals and clay sculptures have lost their former luster. Fortunately, Dunhuang has regained its luster and vitality thanks to the perseverance and conservation of generations of Dunhuang people who have inherited the "Spirit of Mogao". This spirit has inspired a group of Hong Kong people who are passionate about Dunhuang art and Chinese culture to form the Friends of Dunhuang (Hong Kong), a non-profit public interest organization, to protect the precious cultural heritage.
