The President of the Legislative Council (LegCo), Andrew Leung, said today (Dec. 11) that the new District Council Ordinary Election (DCOE) was implemented yesterday in a positive atmosphere of healthy competition, which is the key to reshaping the system of district governance.
"The LegCo looks forward to working with the next District Councils to deal with livelihood issues more effectively and to work together for the well-being of the general public," he said.
Leung further noted that he believed that under the principle of "patriots administering HK", new District Council Members would do their best to serve the public.
He hoped that the Members would continue to work hard and fulfill their duties, so as to put the operation of the District Councils back on the right track, thereby meeting public expectations and fully performing their advisory role in assisting the HKSAR Government in its governance.
On behalf of all LegCo Members, Leung also thanked everyone who voted enthusiastically for the election of the new term District Council Members in a fair, just and lawful manner, so as to contribute to the building of a better community.
