The first Hong Kong Laureate Forum opened today (Nov. 13) at the Science Park. The Chief Executive, John Lee Ka-chiu, said in his speech that Hong Kong will change its industrial structure and make innovation and technology development (IT) a key driver of the economy, and that a sustainable science and innovation ecosystem will be established for the next generation.
With the support of the National 14th Five-Year Plan, Hong Kong is committed to developing into an international innovation and technology center, and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has brought enormous opportunities for Hong Kong in the area of innovation and technology, according to Lee.
Lee also noted that the Policy Address has put forward a number of initiatives targeting the development of IT, clearly demonstrating that the SAR Government will spare no effort in developing innovation and technology
He said he was confident that these targeted measures would advance the ecosystem of the industry and bring strong growth momentum to the sector.
A sustainable talent pool, Lee stressed, is a key element for the successful development of IT, and the Government is committed to nurturing, attracting and retaining talent.
