John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said his administration is looking into a proposal to complete the local legislation under Article 23 of the Basic Law by next year.
The CE began delivering his second Policy Address at the Legislative Council on Wednesday (Oct. 25) morning.
Article 23 of the Basic Law stipulates that the HKSAR shall enact laws on its own to prohibit acts and activities that endanger national security.
Lee said the government is pressing ahead to draw up effective legislative options and will complete the legislative exercise in 2024 to fulfil its constitutional duty.
