In response to the Government's Night Vibes Hong Kong campaign to develop the night-time economy, a food street at Temple Street to sell specialty snacks to attract customers is under consideration.
Chan Kam-wing, chairman of the Yaumatei Temple Street Association of Hawkers and Shop Operators, disclosed in a radio program today (Oct. 16) that now there are more than 100 retail stalls in Temple Street, and more than 20 hot food stalls will be set up by then, inviting renowned restaurants to set up stalls to sell snacks such as ngau zap and tong sui, together with stalls such as tarot and fortune telling stalls so that it will follow the example of Taiwan's night market in attracting tourists.
It is learned that the initial plan is to set up stalls without additional leases for the time being.
Chan said that HKTB has already made a draft plan for the design and layout of the stalls, which can be activated once all the arrangements are finalized.
As far as he understands, many government departments have been very cooperative in removing barriers and restrictions, and discussions are underway to see if the larger food stalls should be "set in the morning and dismantled in the evening".
