This morning (Oct. 1), the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government held a flag-raising ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai. Following the conclusion of the ceremony, a grand reception commemorating the 74th National Day was held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre, with Chief Executive Li Ka-chung presiding over the event.
Prominent guests attending the reception included Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Zheng Yanxiong, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (LOCPG); Dong Jingwei, Director of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR; Li Yongsheng, Acting Commissioner of the Commissioner's Office of China's Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong; Rear Admiral Lai Ruxin, Political Commissar of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison Navy; Chief Justice Andrew Cheung of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal; Eric Chan Kwok-ki, Chief Secretary for Administration; Paul Lam, Financial Secretary; Regina Ip, Convenor of the Executive Council and a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, among others.
During the reception, world-renowned tenor Warren Mok performed two songs, celebrating the anniversary of the nation and setting the stage for the National Day reception.
