Prior to the US Federal Reserve's statement of monetary policy later that day, Hong Kong dipped at the opening of trading on Wednesday (Sept. 20), matching declines on Wall Street.
The Hang Seng Index dipped 0.32 percent to 17,939.
The Shanghai Composite Index retreated 0.20 percent to 3,119, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on the mainland's second exchange eased 0.18 percent to 1,901.
