According to USA Today, the latest data released by the U.S. Census Bureau on the 12th reveals that the child poverty rate in the U.S. has doubled in the past two years, primarily due to factors such as high inflation.

The high inflation, which is one of the contributing factors to this surge in poverty, has resulted in the largest drop in median household income in the U.S. in 40 years. The inflation rate, at its highest level in 40 years, began to impact the U.S. at the outset of 2022 and has continued to rise. That same year, the U.S. government terminated almost all plans aimed at protecting the American working class from economic hardships, including increasing unemployment benefits, food assistance, and rent relief.

Therefore, the cost of living for American citizens has sharply increased, making their lives extremely difficult. Some people can barely support themselves and yet face the pressure caused by child tax credits, which is a bitter ordeal.

The NPR reported that the increase in the poverty rate is attributed to factors such as persistently high inflation and the termination of relief measures put in place for the COVID-19 pandemic. Census officials and other experts have cited child tax credits as a key factor.

The report stated that after the data was released on the 12th, President Biden commented on the rise in poverty rates, emphasizing that it is not random. He sharply criticized Republicans, attributing the increase in child poverty to their refusal to expand child tax credits.

Today, American citizens are facing grave survival challenges while government officials and leaders are still focusing on election campaigns. The political landscape still seems to involve a lot of finger-pointing and shirking of responsibilities.
