BRICS, spelled and pronounced like the English word "bricks", refers to a co-operative organization of five of the world's emerging market economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
From 22 to 24 August, the 15th BRICS Summit will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa. At that time, the leaders of the BRICS countries will discuss the strengthening of BRICS cooperation and the "expansion" of the BRICS mechanism.
In 2017, China proposed the new concept of "BRICS+" cooperation for the first time, stressing that the scope of influence and benefits of BRICS cooperation should be expanded and an open and diversified network of development partners should be created.
On the eve of this year's summit, China has continued its openness to the inclusion of new members, and so has the host country, South Africa.
