The cruise ship, Spectrum of the Seas, visited Hong Kong again the day before yesterday (August 19), with about 4,500 passengers aboard. It arrived at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, and the traffic situation was generally acceptable.
After the free shuttle bus service gets strengthened, however, taxis in the docks appeared to be a glut. "The company keeps an effective communication with the taxi industry, and it is difficult to ensure every Hong Kong taxi driver receives relevant information at the same time," the managing director at Worldwide Cruise Terminals, Jeff Bent said in response today (August 21).
He stresses that further consultation with the industry is expected.
Passengers of this cruise ship are only visiting but not staying in Hong Kong, most of whom are with no suitcase, so people tend to take buses, said Bent.
"The most important thing is to enable travelers to reach nearby MTR stations most quickly," he said.
He also agreed that it might not be necessary to provide seven free bus or coach routes.
According to Bent, he would discuss with the Administration again and preferred to retain only those routes which were more popular among tourists.
