Manchester City have won the 2023 UEFA Super Cup, defeating Sevilla 5-4 on penalties after the sides had fought out a 1-1 draw in Piraeus, Athens.
City dominated the first half, forcing two good saves from Bono before Sevilla struck from nowhere to take the lead. A three-pass move started by Bono ended with a towering header from Youssef En-Nesyri to put Sevilla ahead.
A second-half strike from Cole Palmer, however, canceled out En-Nesyri's first-half opener to set up the spot kick shoot-out.
And, after five successful penalties for City, a miss by Sevilla's Nemanja Gudelj secured the prestigious prize for Pep Guardiola's side after a clash played out at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, home of Greek side Olympiakos.
It was Man City's first appearance in the tournament, which pits the winners of the UEFA Champions League against the reigning Europa League champions.
