MTR to offer 50% fare discount this Saturday

MTR Corporation will hold a "Thank You Day" this Saturday (Aug. 19), providing a half-fare discount to thank passengers for their support. The Corporation will also run more frequent train trips on a number of rail lines on that day to facilitate passengers to enjoy journeys with half fares.

Meanwhile, starting from this Sunday (20 August 2023), the Corporation will enhance regular train service on the Tseung Kwan O Line, Tuen Ma Line and South Island Line on Sundays and public holidays for the convenience of those who live in communities along these lines to travel during holidays.

Arrangement for "Thank You Day"

During the "Thank You Day" on 19 August 20231, passengers can enjoy a 50% discount for every trip with their Octopus on the MTR, Light Rail and MTR Bus running in Northwest New Territories, or when they pay by QR code for travel on the heavy rail network. The half fare also applies to cross-boundary trips running to and from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations on the East Rail Line.

Seven MTR lines (the Island Line, South Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line, Tuen Ma Line, East Rail Line and Tung Chung Line) will run more frequent train trips on that day for the convenience of passengers with a total of 370 train trips added. More coupled-set Light Rail vehicles will also be used to increase carrying capacity.

Regular Train Service of Three Rail Lines Enhanced on Sundays and Public Holidays Starting from 20 August

Furthermore, the Corporation will enhance Tseung Kwan O Line, Tuen Ma Line and South Island Line services on Sundays and public holidays starting from 20 August.

For the Tseung Kwan O Line, train frequency between Tiu Keng Leng and LOHAS Park stations will be increased from about every 12 minutes to about every 10 minutes from 8 pm to 12 midnight on Sundays and public holidays, while train frequency between North Point and Po Lam stations will be increased to about every 5 minutes during the same period.

More frequent train trips will also run on the Tuen Ma Line and South Island Line during certain afternoon and evening periods on Sundays and public holidays. Train frequency on the Tuen Ma Line from 1 pm to 4:30 pm and from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm will be enhanced from about every 7 minutes to about every 6 minutes.
