The Home Office of the United Kingdom announced earlier that it would introduce a priority visa service for Hong Kong residents applying for entry to the UK through the British National (Overseas) passport (BNO) Visa Scheme. A spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in the UK responded that China has all along been opposed to the UK's manipulation of the BNO visa scheme, which interferes in HK-related affairs and China's internal affairs.
According to the spokesperson, facts have fully proven that what the UK has done is a far cry from "protecting" the people of HK, but aimed at smearing and disrupting the city.
"We urge the UK to get a clear understanding of the reality and the larger trend, stop staging its hypocritical shows, stop misleading people from HK and stop interfering in China's internal affairs," said the spokesperson.
