To raise awareness of road safety among pedestrians and reduce traffic casualties caused by jaywalking, the police today (August 14) launched a two-week large-scale law enforcement operation all over Hong Kong.
The enforcement action targets pedestrian offenses, including violating traffic lights, climbing over roadside railings, and negligent crossing of the road resulting in endangerment to oneself or others. Offenders are liable to a maximum fine of HK$2,000.
In addition, the police will also crack down on driver misconduct, including inattentive driving, careless driving and dangerous driving.
